Songwriting Workshop Ages 10 to Adult. This is a new class to Musicians Workshop with director Stacy Dove Daniels. This class is catered to beginning and advanced students. Students are able to express creative energy as they learn to write lyrics and melody for all styles of music. Students are Instructed on live and studio performance techniques. At the end of the semester, one advanced student is chosen to record their song at a professional studio.

Artists in Residence Program. Once a month a member of our Professional Artists in Residence is featured in a Master Class setting. This gives the opportunity for the students to learn from professionals who have various backgrounds in music,
and experience in the music industry. Our professional Artists in Residence play an intricate part in these programs, improving musicianship and technical skills.

Drum circles are directed by professional percussionists and focus on rhythm and playing music together as a group. While students are still learning their instruments, this program allows them to play rhythmically with others without
having to master an instrument first. Drum circles are held once a month. The purpose of the Drum Circle is rhythm study. There are two aspects of playing music: 1) which note needs to be played and 2) when the note needs to be played. It takes many years of playing to get to a point of “being free” of the instrument, by not thinking about the notes; in the meantime, the rhythm often suffers. Led by professional percussionists, Drum Circles give the students a chance to play rhythms together without formal instruments. Once they ‘feel’ the rhythm and get a sense of how to play together in a group, playing in a group becomes an innate sense.

Private Lessons. Private lessons are available on voice and almost any instrument including: Voice, Vocal, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Percussion, Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, F Horn, Violin, Viola, Cello, etc.. Private lessons supplement practice, study, and participation in a group. Private lessons are offered to students on most musical instruments and voice, with the philosophy of the teacher acting as a tutor for the student, as opposed to being the only source of learning, education, and expression.

All of these programs are performance oriented. The students perform locally for senior citizens and assisted living homes, both private and public schools, as well as festivals and other events. Live performance gives performers the necessary skills and confidence needed for singers and musicians who want to perform, have fun , and who may want to make a career in music.

Performances are scheduled two to three times a month and are directed by Jon Laskin, as well as the program director for each class.

Classes:

- Music Appreciation: This class will feature guest hosts who will present audio or video as well as written material which will teach students various types of music from different cultures and ethnic groups.

. The Artists in Residence Program involves once a month Master Class with a professional musician.

Planned Classes:

Planned classes include computer music instruction in a special classroom, with
terminals for students, connected to a teacher’s terminal. As well as creating and editing
music on computers, there are many “games” that have been marketed for students to
learn music theory, site reading, ear training, and rhythm study.
